The New Curtain Theatre Company was established in March of 2005 and began it first year of productions in April of 2006. The mandate of the company is to bring to the local stage the world of classical and contemporary theatre from Canada and the world stage at large.
The New Curtain was the brain-child of the artistic director, Geoff Adams, while working here in 2004 at The Gros Morne Festival. Seeing an abscence of the more varied sorts of theatre - especially in rural Newfoundland.
Our first shows were produced in a variety of venues from movie cinemas to hotel banquet rooms to church halls. Now the New Curtain has within just its first year acquired its very own home base - a loft theatre on the White Hills Ski Resort. As a collaborative effort and in the spirit of community building The New Curtain aims to provide to the area an experience in theatre that is unparalleled anywhere else on the island. We hope that you will share with us in this experience.
The New Curtain Theatre Company takes its name from one of the very first theatres in London and hopes to exemplify the presentation of major works as its predecessor did during its day in the 15th century.
